  • Fourth of July Parade
    • The parade begins at 11am Thursday and will run along S. 20th St. to Route 7 which is Main Street and down Maple Avenue to A Street and will end at Blue Ridge Middle School.
    • Makersmiths has several mini floats made by different groups within the organization! If you take any photos, the Newsletter Committee would love to see them. Melissa Kowalski is the person to send them to.
  • Introduce New Members
  • Education News (Diane Painter is busy getting floats ready)
    • we have two spaces left in the family-friendly Tinkercad workshop at the end of July. Check the calendar for the workshops running July 29-Aug 1.
    • Chris Cook will be teaching a workshop on how to make an electric guitar pedal. This is a great workshop for teens and adults who learn many different skills, look for that event on the August calendar Aug 5-8.

  • There’s a channel #rules-and-bylaws-review where people are welcome to contribute. They’ll need a Makersmiths email to access the documents and they can be setup with one pretty quickly. Just join the channel and let Jonathan White know. It won’t be an immediate response though. Figuring out how best to have a committee review that’s manageable and balanced with getting input from the members.

  • The Room Switch-A-Roo is still happening and in full swing! We need as many hands on deck during odd times throughout July & August. Please contact Jessee if you would like to work on projects that include woodworking, building and the cnc!
  • Things are finally settling in the main room! The new BN2-20 showed up last month and is already producing amazing stickers, labels, decals and more! Check the #bn2-20 channel for more info and when classes will start.
  • A new pegboard went up and is full of all out basic tools again! 
  • Our next work day is Saturday July 13th starting at 9am

  • Sally Soles is looking for artwork that can hang on the walls in the Purcellville Town Hall. Fill out the google form found in the May Makersmiths Newsletter.

  • Please DM Diane Painter on the Scheduling Committee if you are interested in taking the lead on a family- friendly workshop this summer. In the past we have had electronic and soldering, Tinkercad, Arduino workshops- just as a few examples.
  • What kind of classes would everyone like to see? message Diane Painter with your ideas!
  • If you sign up for a class and don't show up, there is no refund.
  • Looking for members for a working group to build classes, brainstorm class ideas.

  • The ceramics shop has completed several classes this month including a unique "spiral bowl" class taught by member and ceramics extraordinaire Kate Amstutz.
  • Special thanks to Kate and Eleanor for fixing the kiln last month!
  • Look for more wheel classes coming up in July and August on the calendar. We have a waitlist of people who will be contacted before the public announcement.
  • We are also planning a "garden ceramics" class where we make watering spikes and plant signs like these https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Terracotta+Watering+Spike.
  • If you have some class ideas you would like to see, please post the suggestions to the #ceramics channel and we will try to get them on the calendar.


Cosplay Area

  • Have you seen the new room?? It's looking amazing! We will need help during the next workday hanging a mirror and some painting.
  • We are also in need of instructors for cosplay! Are you interested? It can be as simple as a mask class, or how to finish a 3D Print for cosplay.
  • Cosplay Night is every Thursday in Leesburg 6:30-8:30pm
  • We will be hosting a props or miniature painting meetup every other month on Wednesdays! Just a time to hang out and paint together. The first meetup is this month on Weds the 17th.

  • We said goodbye to the Universal Laser last Month! It was part of a trade for the new BN2-20. Still sad to see it go.
  • John Carter attached a new quieter compressor to the Nova 51 in Leesburg, and it's working beautifully now! It's the same as the one used in Purcellville on the Nova 24, and you can actually talk using a normal volume when it's running. It's a huge quality of life improvement for the Leesburg Main Room. Thank you John!

  • The lego blockprinting workshop was a success and the kids made so much cool art! Thanks to everyone who came out.

  • The ring saw and grinders are now Red Tools and you will be required to have a sign off to use them

  • Classes have been happening consistently and everyone is loving the new machine and its capabilities. Have you signed up yet?
  • A new Hat Heat Press was purchased and can be used for sublimating, heat transfer vinyl and just attaching patches to hats! It's also great for anything small and curved.

  • It will be sharing a computer with the BN2-20, though it shouldn't impact it's use. One thing to keep in mind: make sure you send to the correct printer! The LEF200 is the top queue and the BN2-20 is the bottom.
  • We learned that the machine should be left on from now on, so please only turn off the filter and vacuum table, not the machine itself.

If the trash can is 2/3 or more full please empty it and place a new trash bag in the can. The woodshop steward does not have cleaning up after you as one of his responsibilities.
