GREEN Access Level and Orientation (Draft)


A GREEN ORIENTATION IS REQUIRED BEFORE USING ANY MACHINE TOOLS AT  MAKERSMITHS

Covers general safety and membership at  MakerSmiths. During this orientation, you will:

  • Hear a brief history of  MakerSmiths and why the organization exists
  • Understand the membership and operating structure at  MakerSmiths
  • How the organization operates
  • How our membership works and our expectations
  • Review general safety procedures for all shop areas at  MakerSmiths
  • Use safety glasses, tie back hair, roll up sleeves, wear closed-toe shoes
  • Locate fire extinguishers
  • Understand emergency machine stops
  • Other specific safety notes
  • Sign a liability waiver

 This orientation will permit you to use:

  • Hand-held bench tools (files, tap sets, hack saw, etc)
  • Hand-held machine tools (circular saws, jig saws, sanders, etc)
  •  Bench-top machine tools with a GREEN tape marking

YELLOW Access Level and Orientation for the Wood Shop (Draft)

The YELLOW orientation is a single session for access to multiple machine tools at  MakerSmiths. You'll learn general rules of the wood shop and how to use these machines:

  • Floor-stand drill press
  • Bench-top band saw
  • Scroll saw
  • Small router table
  • Spindle sander
  • Belt and disc sander

YELLOW Access Level and Orientation for the Metal Shop (Draft) 

The YELLOW orientation is a single session for access to multiple machine tools at  MakerSmiths.

  • Grinder (6")
  • Drill press
  • Shear / Brake / Roller Press
  • Horizontal bandsaw

RED Access Level and Orientations (Draft)

The RED level consists of individual sessions for access to one or more tools.

  • Laser Cutter
  • Table Saw / Router table / Band saw
  • Jointer / Planer (12")
  • Small Wood Lathe
  • CNC Router Mill
  • 3D Printer
  • MIG Welder
